What I think about Zeitgeist

Yohanez recommended the movie “Zeitgeist” to me, but I had previously seen the second one, “Zeitgeist: Addendum”.

I think “Zeitgeist: Addendum” is a very interesting movie and everybody should look into it. I looked at the first movie also briefly, but it seems more chaotic and tries to discuss a lot of stuff at the same time.

You can watch both movies from links from http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/.

“Zeitgeist: The Movie”: There is a lot of stuff about a world government and implanted id chips. I think this would be very bad ideas, too much power to the government. I think governments should be as small as possible. So having smaller countries that each has a small government would be the opposite of this world government thing and I think that is good safety mechanism for governments that aspire for less personal freedom to the people.

“Zeitgeist: Addendum”: I think there is a good explanation of the current monetary system and how government can manipulate this system. And how this government meddling in the economy can lead to bad things such as inflation and mountains of debt.

“Zeitgeist: Addendum”: There are some mentioning of other ideas such as the “venus project” and “resource based economy” which are interesting. They seem a bit socialistic in that you should get everything provided for free. It sounds relaxing that machines should do all the boring work, and that people can concentrate on what they feel is most rewarding. Well so far the technology is not available to do these things, so if we were to switch to this thing right now it would mean that we would have to work after ability and pay after need. Which would be very bad communism. He does not mention anything about if it is allowed to privately own anything in the “venus project” future.  I think private ownership is one of the fundamental human rights.

I know of people that would just party all the time if they did not have to work.

And I think it is true that the world is moving away from selling labour as mentioned in the movie. But then there are many things that a computer can not do. The movie points to technology, so in the future people may be all researchers inventing new things. So maybe in the future we would have to control how many people are born so that there are a balance between the amount of people born and the amount of human jobs that can be sustained. I don’t think it will be so healthy with a society where the people feel there is no place for them even if they have food and everything they need.
