Polite Killing

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Here’s another sociopath clip, it’s from Funny Games U.S. :

You will be killed, but at least you will be killed politely.

Also notice that they are very concerned about not being overweight and chubby. That’s really funny.

Beauty versus Brains

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I have identified the important things in our society.

The pillars are Beauty and Brains and to some extent Social Adaptability.

If you have one or more of these things you will be successful. If you have all these traits you will be very successful.

If you are ugly you will have trouble even if you are talented. There are even ugly and beautiful people in China.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/olympics/article4512250.ece

This above article demonstrates the issue very well.

It is so sad that the girl had to be back stage and sing because she was not beautiful enough to be on TV.

But you have to sell the berries you can sell, and be content with that.

Brains
You will get away with being a bit ugly and awkward in the computer industry as long as you can do things with the computer. (So he or she is a useful person).

Beauty
A bit dumb, but beautiful and social adapt sales guy will front the computer product the ugly awkward computer dude produces. (So the sales person is a useful person).

None of the above
You can get away with being ugly as long as you are social adapt. If you are ugly, but are able to make people laugh and be comfortable you are a bit useful. But an ugly, dumb and unsocial dude will have very much problems existing.  (Totally useless in all settings).

Training Shoes on Overweight People looks Dumb

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I have noticed that people that work with computers have a tendency to want to wear running shoes / training shoes and often this is people that are very overweight people. Referred to as “joggesko” in Norwegian. Shoes that look more like running shoes than regular sneakers.

See image for explanation of what kind of shoes that I am talking about: running shoes

Sales people don’t wear these kinds of shoes, they are more likely to wear some leather shoes. Something more fashionable and stylish.

That is likely connected with that when you sit in front of a computer all day appearance is of little relevance combined with a desire to be comfortable.

The point is that I think it looks incredible stupid for overweight people to wear these kinds of shoes. You should make a rule that if you have not done any kind of running or exercising the last two weeks you are not allowed to wear training shoes.

It seems to be a rule the more overweight a person is the more he needs these kinds of shoes. I suppose the more weight the more load on the feets.

Is it sick to be narcissitic and absolutely obsessed with having the best everything: the best business card, the best clothes, the best apartment, the best body?

Crossed paths

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Two days in a row the paths have crossed on our way home from work at the exact same spot.

It is one of those freak things where you think that it is almost weird and scary.

The dude worked at the previous job. He is bike-cycling across Oslo from where he works going home many kilometers and I am walking home.

I liked the idea: that you are not in good shape to cycle that far, it is what keep you in good shape.

Saving mode and Spending mode

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I think there is a saving mode and a spending mode. At least for me.

In the saving mode it is easy to save. It is easy to ignore tempting offers for things you must have. It is easy to ignore whims and wishes.

In the spending mode it is easy to want things, and to come up with some rationale for your self that you need these things. It is easier to give in to these wishes. Spending gives way to more spending. “If I can buy this expensive thing, it makes little difference if I also buy this expensive thing”, you say to yourself. The appetite for more has just awaken. The greed for more materialistic things becomes more and more hungry as you spend and it is difficult to stop spending.

Lately I have been in spending mode and it has been a bit difficult to switch to saving mode.

I have among other things bought a bike. More info about this later. But there are many reasons why it is smart and “a good investment” to buy a bike (The spender is talking…).

I usually like to be in saving mode for the large parts of the time. But when vacations comes up or going away somewhere it is nice to be able to switch to spending mode and then deliberately spend money on things.

These saving and spending modes are similar to the days in the week. A week has two different types of days work days and days off in the week end. It is similar on many levels. The week has more work days than off days. Similar your saving and spending modes should be more saving than spending. The week ends are more fun than the work days, spending requires less effort than saving.

Then again people are different. I know some people that are just spenders, and have no saving mentality. That type of person is usually very often broke and is waiting for salary day. Then again some are laughing at me for talking about saving and buying only the bare necessities.

28 degrees Celsius = 82.4 degrees Fahrenheit

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

It is very “summerish” outside, and there are still some vacation days left.

So pretty much all the battles going on are with the tan and the heat.

My tip is not to try to walk far, and not try to do any physical activity in the heat. Just find yourself some place where you can work on the tan, or possibly next to some place where you can take a dip in an ocean or a pool, and have some refreshing drinks nearby that you can get to without too much work.

When it is this warm it is difficult to think. So it is better to just postpone any serious work until the summer is over.

High school

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I remember a lot from high school.

I got 9/10 on the following quiz.

What do you get?

I did not know when Henrik Wergeland lived.

This girl is a bit hot. The story is about she getting very good grades in high school.
